ArH 356U Early Medieval Art and Architecture
Explores the art and architecture of Early Christian, Insular, Viking, Carolingian, and early Islamic world. Works covered include early Christian catacombs, the Book of Kells, and the so-called desert palaces of Umayyad caliphs in order to explore the themes of monasticism, pilgrimage, and the transmission of ideas around the Mediterranean.
Recommended preparation: ArH 204 (expected of art & art history majors).
