PS 474 Democracy and Development in Latin America

Examines issues of democracy and development in Latin America. It addresses such topics as the role of history, political culture, political leadership, political institutions, the state, the military, civil society, social classes, level of socio-economic development, and their relationship to the possibilities of success or failure for democracy in Latin America. The course examines specific cases such as Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, and Uruguay. Expected preparation: PS 353.
