Ph 316 Experimental Physics III

Students will perform several experiments illustrating quantum and relativistic effects. The emphasis will be on computer-assisted experimentation and data analysis. Experiments will include instrumentation and counting in nuclear physics, measurement of band gap in semiconductors, measurement of ratio of electron Students will perform several experiments illustrating different physical phenomena. The emphasis will be on maintaining a lab notebook and gaining important technical skills. Experiments will include assembly of instrumentation such as; measurement of a band gap in semiconductors, measurement of E/M ratio, laser harmonic generation, vacuum tech, etc... In addition, this class includes usage of an SEM, TEM, AFM, STM and deposition system. This is the third course in a sequence of three: Ph 314, Ph 315 and Ph 316. Expected Preparation: Ph 314 and Ph 315
