MuEd 540 Culturally Responsive Music Teaching
Examines the ways in which traditional approaches to music education have included certain types of students while excluding others, particularly students of color, students experiencing poverty, and students for whom traditional school music classes are far removed from their personal experience of music. Students explore future-forward approaches to music education by investigating culturally responsive teaching practices, Universal Design for Learning, equitable approaches to repertoire selection, and current trends that connect K-12 students to various aspects of popular music and culture.
