ESM 483 Marine Conservation and Management

Students learn about three aspects of Earth's oceans. First, we discuss the state of the oceans, and ecological differences between marine and terrestrial/aquatic systems. Second we discuss the major threats to ocean systems. Third, we focus on solutions in terms of protected areas, management and policy strategies, and various aspects of the human dimension. Students will participate in a real-world marine conservation or management group project identified by and in collaboration with a community partner. Expected preparation: ESM 335.
