HS 303 Trauma Informed Helping Professional

Introduces students to Trauma Informed Care (TIC) principles in human service settings. Students will learn about the history of the TIC movement and current approaches. Students will review the science of trauma and toxic stress (neurobiology, epigenetics, adverse childhood experiences, and resiliency) and will gain an appreciation for trauma informed care as a universal precautions approach versus a trauma specific intervention. Students will also examine the ways in which policies and procedures in human service settings can trigger stress responses.
