SW 533 Advanced Clinical Practice I
This first course teaches social work practice that honors the strengths, vulnerabilities, goals, and needs of clients and how to be responsive to the socio-political and systemic contexts of clients’ lives. Students learn engagement, assessment, and case-conceptualization skills grounded in critical theory. Students are supported to connect with their own competence, compassion, and hope; and to develop self-awareness. Attention is paid to recognizing oppressive conditions and pathologizing narratives that impact clients, policies, and service delivery.
