ITP 463 Literacy Methods 1 Reading and Spelling Words

Designed to introduce students to the key scientifically-based reading research foundations needed to understand how children learn to read and spell words. Addresses fundamental principles and concepts of the structure of language (especially phonological awareness and phonics), and findings from cognitive science, neurobiology, and educational research. Foregrounds language and literacy development of multilingual learners (MLLs) and children demonstrating characteristics of dyslexia.
